HARDY OAK EL
District: NORTH EAST ISD
The Student Leaders from our school's Wellness Committee are wanting to spread the word on various ways to take care of our body, mind, heart, and soul. ( Steven Covey's 7th Habit: Sharpen the Saw" ) In order to focus on taking care of our body, the Wellness Committee will sponsor, and encourage all students, staff, and parents to take the "Healthy Habits 21 Day Challenge" once every nine week grading period. We will start with a 21 Day Challenge Kick off on October 27th. Students will make and hang posters, will present healthy habit tips and exercises on our morning announcements, and in classroom and school wide newsletters. During the challenge, participants will get points for the number of fruits and vegetables they eat per day, for the number of minutes they exercise per day, the hours of sleep they get each night, and for the number of glasses of water they drink per day. ( Requirements will be appropriate for adults and for children.) ie. 3 points=6+ fruits/vegetables 2 points=3-5 fruits/vegetables 1 point=1-2 fruits/vegetables per day 3 points = 8+ glasses of water 2 points - 5-7 glasses of water 1 point = 1-4 glasses of water per day At the end of the challenge, participants will total their points in all four categories and prizes will be awarded. We would like to award for participation, for great effort, as well as for the highest number of points. We would eventually like to spread the words and have challenges between other schools within the district.
Partial Funding Plan
If we don't reach our funding goal...we will continue to invite, encourage, and motivate students, staff, and parents to participate in the challenge each 9 week grading period - without the prize incentives. We ( The wellness Committee ) will however, continue to seek donations from community members and will hold a small fundraiser that will not interfere with the various funding events held by the school and its PTA.
